removal of pb (ii) from aqueous solutions using waste tea leaves

چکیده
background: the presence of lead in natural waters has become an important issue around the world. lead has been identified as a highly toxic metal that can cause severe environmental and public health problems and its decontamination is of utmost importance. the aim of this work was to evaluate the adsorption of lead (pb(ii)) on waste tea leaves as a cheap purification method. methods: in this experimental study, prepared waste tea leaves were used as adsorbent for the removal of pb(ii) from aqueous solutions. adsorption experiments were carried out as batch studies at different contact time, ph, amount of adsorbent, initial metal concentration and temperature. results: the results showed that maximum removal efficiency was observed at ph 6. also the adsorption of pb(ii) ions increased with decreasing initial metal concentration. the langmuir isotherm model fits well with the equilibrium adsorption isotherm data and its calculated maximum monolayer adsorption capacity was 166.6 mg g-1 at a temperature of 25±0.1˚c. the kinetic data obtained have been analyzed using pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models. the best fitted kinetic model was found to be pseudo-second-order. conclusion: the results suggest that tea wastes could be employed as cheap material for the removal of lead from aqueous solutions.

متن کاملRemoval of Pb (II) from Aqueous Solutions using Fuller's Earth
Fuller’s earth is a fine-grained, naturally occurring substance that has a substantial ability to adsorb impurities. In the present study Fuller’s earth has been characterized and used for the removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solution. The effect of various physicochemical parameters such as pH, adsorbent dosage and shaking time on adsorption were studied. The result of the equilibrium studies sh...
متن کاملREMOVAL OF Pb(II) FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION BY SORPTION ON USED TEA LEAVES
Batch sorption study was performed using used black tea leaves (UBTL) as a low-cost adsorbent for the removal of lead (II) from aqueous solutions. Experiments were conducted as a function of contact time, initial metal ion concentration, solution pH and temperature. The sorption of Pb(II) on used tea leaves increases with increase of initial pH of solution upto a certain limit which corresponds...
متن کاملRemoval of Pb(II) and Cu(II) Ions from Aqueous Solutions by Cadmium Sulfide Nanoparticles
In this study, cadmium sulfide nanoparticles (CdS NPs) were prepared, characterized and used as a new adsorbent for simultaneous removal of Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions. Using a batch adsorption method, the effects of solution pH, contact time, adsorbent dose, and temperature were studied and optimized. Removal efficiencies, higher than 98% were obtained for both the met...
متن کاملTea Wastes Efficiency on Removal of Cd(II) From Aqueous Solutions
Background & Aims of the Study: Heavy metals, such as cadmium (Cd(II)), enter into the environment and cause health hazard due to their toxicity and bioaccumulation in the human body. Therefore, they must be removed from water. In recent years, much attention has been focused on the use of material residues as low-cost adsorbents for the removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous...
